Fundamentally, Everblue Massawippi is not involved in the political decision-making process, which is the domain of the municipalities and their citizens. In light of this, Everblue Massawippi took no position in the recent debate regarding the large development project in North Hatley. We are not mandated to intervene in the economic and aesthetic choices of a municipality, riparian or not, to the extent that these choices are not likely to affect Lake Massawippi. If these choices result in changes to the basic standards established in the watershed, however, Everblue Massawippi must take action. When it comes to overflow in wetlands, […]

As a biologist and newly-appointed coordinator for the Tomifobia River Watershed, I am interested in the filtration and purification potential of mushrooms in agriculture practice. Whether it be Lake Massawippi or elsewhere in Quebec, we are facing many water quality challenges, such as cyanobacteria or fecal coliforms. These problems have opened our eyes and given rise to rethinking the importance of assuring the permanency of our water resources. While not often heard of, mushrooms could become an interesting option for water management. The Super Powers of Mushrooms Mushrooms have long been associated with strange spiritual rituals, witchcraft and even with […]
Soil erosion in the Lake Massawippi watershed brings tons of sediment to the lake annually. Sediment means phosphates and blue-green algae. To battle this problem, Everblue Massawippi has worked closely with municipalities and agricultural producers in the watershed for more than a year to put effective practices in place to reduce erosion. Agriculture Sector: Already more than fifteen agricultural producers have committed to planting almost 800 acres of cover crops in corn fields in 2013. This is a first for the Eastern Townships! These crops will protect the soil starting this autumn and significantly reduce soil loss towards the lake. […]
Our vice-president, Jacques Bernier, was invited on June 11 to participate in the Tous en action pour la St-François Conference organized by the COGESAF. He gave a presentation on the approach used by Everblue Massawippi which led to its success in the field. The previous week, Everblue Massawippi, in collaboration with the MAPAQ, hosted the reputed agricultural magazine La terre de chez-nous, which was interested in our activity in the watershed.
